Newtown Blues

Sometimes words fail. . .

Newtown Blues

The helplessness we feel is dwarfed by theirs

Whose cries are drowned by our collective gasp,

So young to be engulfed within cross hairs,

While innocence is stolen from our grasp.

As parents, we feel lacking to console,

Those whose pain exceeds our greatest fears,

It’s time to acquiesce to gun control

Before this violence drowns us in our tears.

Amendment two provisions can remain

A sacred right of freedom to us still,

But safety must be able to sustain

Against a world of crazies armed to kill.

When will we learn to love our sons and daughters

More than saving rights to guns and slaughters?
